Social Studies

We are currently learning about different American Symbols. We've learned that a symbol is something that stands for or represents something else. We will be learning about the bald eagle, Statue of Liberty, Mount Rushmore, the Liberty Bell, and many more. I will update our blog with different links, stories, or fun facts!

Super Scientists!

Super Scientist Experiments:

STEM Education combines Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to create a student-centered classroom. The curriculum is based on problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and requires students to actively engage in a situation, in order to find its solution.
In a few weeks, we will be doing something new. We will have a SUPER SCIENTIST OF THE WEEK. Each week, a child will be assigned to be the Super Scientist. The Super Scientist will bring an experiment to school to share with the class. You can find your experiment on line by searching for “easy science experiments” or “science experiments with household items”; you can also look at websites like Pinterest. If you would like suggestions, I can also send home some ideas. This will be a great chance for your child to learn about science and  in gaining experience with organizing their thoughts and speaking to a group. The week before you child is assigned to be the Super Scientist I will send a reminder note and a graphic organizer. Please keep in mind your child will have roughly 30 minutes to present!
You can find science experiments on the internet by searching “science experiments for kids” or if you need help please let me know. Your initial thought may be Mentos and Coke, but there are hundreds of experiments that don’t require the mixing of liquids or are less dramatic, that can still be excellent learning experiences.

Estimation Jar

If you did not have the opportunity to come to our open house on Monday August 18th, you missed out on the estimation jar!

Yesterday, Tuesday August 19th, the first grade students, and myself, counted up ALL the marbles in the jar!

Our final count was... 179

Our student/ family with the closest guess was Emma Sanchez, with the guess of 201.

Thank you to all the families that attended the open house and signed up for the party committees!

Go Mustangs!
